What do you do when you are at a place of change? How do you make tough decisions?
These are age-old questions. All of us have found ourselves at a "crossroad" at some time in our lives. Crossroads give us choices and they represent a change in direction or focus. This can be either scary or exciting, maybe both, it depends on your outlook. I used to hate change, and there are still things that I don't like to "mess with" I figure "if it isn't broken, why fix it"!!. The thing is even great things can get stagnant and need to grow. Like the plant in your window that has outgrown the pot, it's beautiful, but it won't stay that way if there is no room to grow, or it may just stay the same size.....forever!!! Is that what you want for your life.....no growth or improvement? Nooooo!!! We all want to learn and grow and lead healthy lives. So how do you maneuver change and make tough decisions?
Well, my take on things is to make sure that you:
#1 Pray about all big decisions...have good conversations about your concerns with God. Ask...wait...listen...and obey. maybe you don't know how or you have never tried. Just engage in conversation with God like you would a friend. He is listening and He does respond. His responses can come in many ways so keep your eyes and ears open.
#2 Examine the motive behind your decision or the feelings involved. Are you attempting to make a change based on a negative emotion or out of fear? I caution you if this is the case....unless you are in danger...make big decisions with a clear mind
#3 Seek wise council. Go to someone that you trust, perhaps someone that has been in your situation, someone with wisdom and talk to them about your situation. Listen to what they have to say and pray about it.
#4 Find the peace in your decision. If you can not find peace in your decision...pray more. Excitement or nervousness is normal when making a big decision or change but if you can not feel at peace with the thought...pray more.
Look for the positive in the change. What are you learning? What things needed to be gone? How will the change make your life better? Use the time to grow!!!
Whether or not the change was your choice or it just happened....there is something good in it!!!
If you have questions, please send me a message and I would be happy to do my best to answer them and to pray with you.
